The Art of the Feed

If you’re like me, Instagram brings the weekly screentime reports from a quaint two hours to a cheeky five. More than the social aspect, the creative component is what keeps me coming back day after day. Crafting a cohesive feed is one of the best ways to flex creative skills with no pressure or consequence. So, what exactly does it take to craft the feed of our dreams?
Keep it close to home.
Let’s start with something easy. Build your feed around the colors you experience day to day. Photograph the things you already see every day – if your wardrobe is home to the neutrals, keep your feed with it and if you own every color under the sun, flaunt it. Two accounts that capture this well are @jaci.daily and @whimsywonderland. @Jaci.daily has mastered the art of the neutral decor, so naturally, her feed follows suit. The @awhimsywonderful pair calls sunny and colorful California home leading the duo to fill the feed with more color.


Make it dynamic.
I’ve grown to expect nothing less than greatness from Pantone’s Instagram. Pantone blends product photography, graphic illustration and whimsical photographs. There’s an important feed lesson in here: stir in a little spice and variety every once in a while.

Post what you love.
At the end of the day, posting isn’t for anyone but yourself. If your thing is antique rocking chairs– post that, or if you’re like Bill Young of @myhotelcarpets, and well-worn walkways are more your style– own it. Authenticity is everything.
